May 2009 – Aberdeen, Scotland - Glasgow City is once again host to another big championship event in the 18th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, and Danwood Scotland is proud to sponsor this event in association with Glasgow Culture & Sport.
These championships take place every two years with the last taking place in Jaipur, India in 2007. This year they will take place in the Scotstoun Sports Campus, Glasgow from 19th - 25th May 2009.
This is the first Commonwealth competition taking place in Glasgow since the City won the bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games in November 2007. Table tennis is also one of the 17 sports chosen for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. As such, these championships offer an early and unprecedented opportunity to support the development of the sport in Scotland and to be associated with the first major pre-Commonwealth event in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
These championships will attract the world's elite table tennis players from up to 20 Commonwealth countries with substantial representation from major table tennis nations such as India and Singapore. Many of the players of this competition will go on to compete in the London 2012 Olympics and then the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Danwood Scotland is pleased to offer support to this exciting global event, and make it the success it will undoubtedly be. For more information, please visit www.comtabglasgow2009.com.
